 Noddy Holder: Slade star diagnosed with cancer five years ago, wife reveals



Noddy Holder's wife has revealed the former Slade frontman was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer five years ago.

Holder, 77, initially received a prognosis of just six months to live, according to his wife Suzan.However, Suzan mentioned that the renowned singer, known for his hits like "Merry Xmas Everybody" and "Cum On Feel The Noize," responded positively to experimental chemotherapy.She expressed her admiration for his resilience throughout the treatment and remarked, "Here we are five years later, and he's feeling great and looking fantastic."


In an article for Cheshire Life magazine, Mrs. Holder praised her husband for his remarkable good humor and remarkable bravery during his battle with cancer.Hailing from Walsall, West Midlands, Noddy Holder led the glam rock band from 1966 to 1992, achieving six UK number one singles.He also ventured into television and radio, notably appearing in the ITV comedy series "The Grimleys" from 1999 to 2001 and hosting radio programs on the former Piccadilly 1152 and Key 103 networks in Manchester.


Mrs. Holder mentioned that her husband received treatment at the Christie Hospital in Manchester, where he underwent a challenging course of experimental treatment as part of a new trial involving intensive chemotherapy.Oesophageal cancer can occur anywhere in the esophagus, which connects the mouth to the stomach. Mrs. Holder described the diagnosis as a "shock" and emphasized the importance of staying united during such a challenging period."We shared this information only with our closest family and friends, and I extend my apologies only to those we did not confide in, especially to those who had to bear the pain and anxiety alongside us as we navigated this new and daunting reality," Mrs. Holder added.


Mrs. Holder, who has been married to Noddy for nearly 20 years, disclosed that they had received no assurances regarding the success of the treatment."Noddy has always excelled at living in the present, without dwelling on the past or worrying about the future," she noted.She credited his positive mental attitude for contributing to much of his recovery.Despite the rigorous treatment, Noddy Holder managed to perform a series of shows during the summer.
